Description: Physicians help people who are sick or have been hurt. They examine patients, perform tests, prescribe treatments, and teach people about health care. Surgeons perform operations on patients with lifethreatening illness and injuries. Physicians work in hospitals, clinics, and private practice. Many work 60 hours a week or more. They may be on call for emergency visits to the hospital. Most doctors must travel frequently from their offices to hospitals to care for patients.
