: Automotive mechanics and service technicians repair and service cars, trucks, and vans that have gas engines. Mechanics must be quick and accurate when they are diagnosing mechanical problems. During routine service work, mechanics inspect, adjust, and replace vehicle parts. They usually follow a checklist to make sure they examine parts that might cause a future breakdown. Some mechanics are self-employed.
