Food processing occupations
Description: Food processing workers work in grocery stores and production plants. They may work in a small market, in a large refrigerated room, or on an assembly line. Their work areas must be clean, but they are often cold and damp. Bakers produce cakes, breads, and other baked goods. Deli workers make salads and other side dishes. Butchers and meat, poultry, and fish cutters cut animal meat into small pieces to be sold to customers. These workers have the highest rate of work-related injuries and illnesses of any industry.
