Default Calculus exponential and log functions...?

How does log \base3/ (2x-2) = 2 simplify to 2x-1=3^2 ..?and similarly, how does y = log \base3/ x simplify to 3^y = x ..?

log_a( x ) = y means x = a^ysolog_3 (2x-2) = 2 means (2x-2) = 3^2 = 9or 2(x-1) = 9 x -1 =4.5x = 5.5*** not (2x-1) ***
