A total of 408 tickets were sold for the school play. The number of student tickets sold is two times the number of adult tickets sold . How many adult tickets were sold?
Solution:
Let
x = Number of Student tickets sold
y = Number of adult tickets sold
x+y = 408 ---- (1)
x = 2y ----- (2)
Put x value into equation (1),
2y + y =408
3y = 408
y = 408/3
y = 136
x = 2*136 =272
Therefore,
Number of Student tickets sold is 272
Number of adult tickets sold is 136
