I am going to do a "Math Question of the Week" every week. This will be like the Weekly Question but these will be math questions only!

I am a fraction in simplest form. I am greater than 1/3 and less than 1/2. The sum of all of my digits is 8. The difference between my numerator and denominator is 7. What fraction am I?

Okay, the way I'd go about this is:

What's between 1/3 and 1/2?
1/3 = 2/6 = 4/12
1/2 = 3/6 = 6/12

5/12 is between 4/12 and 6/12. Does it work with the other conditions?

Sum of the digits: 5 + 1 + 2 = 8. Good.

Difference between numerator and denominator: subtracting the smaller number (5) from the larger one (12), we get: 12-5 = 7. Good.

Therefore, 5/12 works for all the conditions; that's your answer.

That is correct! I can tell you looked that up on Google because you have the same exact answer and explanation as the answer on the website I found this from! (Yahoo! the one father is both a son and a father. In other words, its a grandfather, a father, and a son.
