 07-24-2007 #2 McFate Guest   Posts: n/a False.The vertical bars represent "absolute value."|x| = x (when x is positive or zero)|x| = -x (when x is negative)The absolute value of -7 is 7. So...|-7| < -37 < -3... is not true.
07-24-2007 #3 schlouey Guest   Posts: n/a The two vertical lines on either side of the -7 is called "absolute value". The absolute value of a number is its magnitude regardless of whether it is positive or negative. So when you say |-7| you're actually saying '7'. Therefore this statement is false because 7 is not less than 3.
 07-24-2007 #4 scotts1870 Guest   Posts: n/a False since l-7l = 7 It would not be < -3
07-24-2007 #5 gockun Guest   Posts: n/a yeah yeah i agree the others it is false..
 07-24-2007 #6 NIRAJ Guest   Posts: n/a it will be true iff u take |-7| = -7 be false if u take |-7| = 7. byeeeeeeeeeee
