![]() Help me to solve my algebra 1 homework on ages
The difference between the ages of two persons is 10 years. Fifteen years ago, the elder one was twice as old as the younger one. What is the present age of younger one? Thanks |

![]() x = the younger one
x + 10 = (x * 2) -15 -x = -25 x = 25 The younger one is 25 now, 15 years ago he was 10 and the older one 20 ![]() |

![]() Quote:
y = present age of younger person x - y = 10 (x - 15) = 2(y - 15) x = 10 + y (10 + y - 15) = 2(y - 15) y - 5 = 2y - 30 -5 = y - 30 30 - 5 = y 25 = y So the younger person is 25 and the older person is 35. |

![]() Considering the age of younger one is X
age of younger one = x the the age of older one = x+10-----> eqn1 15 years ago age of younger one = x-15 age of older one = 2*(x-15) With eqn1 2*(x-15) = x+10-15 -> 2x-30 = x-5 -> 2x-x = -5+30 -> x = 25 X=25 is the present age of younger person and 25+10=35 is teh age of older person. |
