I need help!

I have an annoying problem. What is 2 to the power of 1997? I thought that 1997*1997= 2 to the power of 1997. I dont know if that's right though.

1997*1997 = 1997 to the power of 2 = 1997^2

2 to the power of 1997 = 2^1997
