is this how it should look? because i can only figure from what you typed (2x+5)/5 = (3x+1)/2 + (-x+7)/2 if it does then combine the right side together since both expressions have common denominator of 2. then you should have (2x+5)/5 = (3x+1+-x+7)/2 (2x+5)/5 = (2x+8)/2 Now you can cross multiply because you have a fraction equal to a fraction (2x+5) *times* 2 = (2x+8) *times* 5 4x+10 = 10x+40 now bring all variable (x) to one side and constant to the other. I want to bring 4x to the right and 40 to the left. I would have: 4x + 10 = 10x + 40 -4x -40 =-4x -40 -30 = 6x divide 6 to both sides -30=6x 6 = 6 you should get: x=-5 Check your work by plug -5 back into the original equation to see if it is correct. ![]() It's pretty much the same as the first reponse's:
(2x+5)/5 = (3x + 1)/2 + (-x + 7)/2 =4x+10 = 15x+5-5x+35 (by multiplying both sides by 10) = 4x + 10 = 10x + 40 (simplification) =-6x = 30 x=-5 DONE!!! |
