07-22-2007 #1 Heiken Guest   Posts: n/a [Math] Integer word problem? I'm currently stuck on a set of problems that the book doesn't have examples for, e.g:"Nine times the first of two consecutive odd integers equals seven times the second. Find the integers."
 12-29-2007 #2 photografr Guest   Posts: n/a here's how "Nine times the first of two consecutive odd integers equals seven times the second. Find the integers." Express two consecutive odd integers as x and x+2 then the problem states... 9(x) = 7(x+2) 9x = 7x + 14 subtract 7x from both sides 9x - 7x = 7x + 14 - 7x 2x = 14 x = 7 so, the answers are 7 and 9 CHECK by substituting your answer back into the original equation 9(7) = 7(9) 63 = 63 check!
