What is the value of x of the number pattern 25, 24, 23, ..., x if the sum of all the numbers in the pattern is -81?

If I got this question right I would say x = -28.

Because the row {25,24,...,-24,-25} equals 0;

If you continue this pattern then you will get 0 = 81 - (26+27+28);

A lot of ways lead to rome but I prefer going with the easiest solution. If you would like to build an algorithm this would maybe not be the most efficient way ^^
